| GLOSSARY AIDS
(Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome)
is the life-threatening stage of advanced HIV infection when
people become vulnerable to many diseases, including some cancers.
The body's immune system basically stops protecting against
certain infections when CD4 counts fall below 200 cells/mm3.
This means that the body doesn't have enough power left to fight
off infections, called opportunistic infections, that it's normally
capable of controlling. |
