| GLOSSARY Blinded
clinical trial: In this type
of trial design, participants do not know whether they are receiving
the study drug or an inactive substance. This is to control
for a well-known placebo effect, where improvements to a disease
are produced despite the absence of an active therapeutic ingredient.
Double-blinded means that neither the participants nor the study
staff know which participants are receiving the placebo and
which are receiving the study drug. |
