| GLOSSARY Hypogonadism
is when the sex glands (gonads in men/ovaries in women) produce
few or no hormones. This can be due to a malfunction in the
gland or in the centres in the brain that control the glands
(hypothalamus and pituitary). Women may have symptoms of hot
flashes, loss of menstruation, low libido and loss of body hair;
men may complain of sexual dysfunction, decreased body hair,
breast enlargement and muscle loss. Hormone-based medicines
are available for men and women in the form of patches, gels
or injections. |
