| GLOSSARY
Lactic acidosis
is a serious condition that arises from the buildup of lactic
acid in the body. Lactic acid is produced when the body burns
sugar, during exercise, for example. Certain medical conditions
like diabetes, or medications such as certain ARVs, can increase
the production of lactic acid in the body. Symptoms of lactic
acidosis include deep and rapid breathing, vomiting and abdominal
pain.
